Recruiting internationally is complex and the competition for top tech talent is fierce. So how do you set your company up for success?

2 out of 3 Norwegian scaleups lack the talent they need to grow and many look abroad to recruit for key positions or skills. During TalentSmash 2023, we organized a masterclass for scaleups to get expert advice and practical tips on how to recruit international talent.

The masterclass was facilitated by recruitment specialist, Tor Daneshmand, CEO & Co-Founder of Amby. Tor has over 10 years of experience in advising founders and executives in building global teams. Amby is one of the leading Nordic tech recruitment companies with 120 employees across EMEA, the US, and Africa. The company is transforming the recruitment industry, by helping scaleups with hiring, employer branding, and people operations.

Here are Tor´s three key areas for scaleups to think about when working to recruit internationally:

1. Do your homework on the talent market!

Some factors you want to think about:

  • What type of candidates are you looking for?

  • How big is the candidate market?

  • Where are they located?

  • What is the salary level they expect vs. what you can provide?

  • What do they care about?

2. Build your employer brand!

  • Understand why your current employees work for you

  • Be honest with what you can and cannot offer.

  • How can you stand out as an employer? What are you offering that no one else is?

3. Design a personalized candidate and employee journey!

Relocation is a big and life-changing decision, so build trust and be hands-on. Think about and set up a process for how can you properly guide your candidates though these phases:

application, offer stage, signing, pre-boarding, relocation, onboarding, and retention.

Thank you for sharing your insights, Tor!
