We are excited to announce the addition of two new members to our board at Oslo Business Region. Øystein Eriksen Søreide, Managing Director of Abelia, will be taking over as the Chairman of the Board, and Christine Wergeland Sørbye, Managing Director of Oslo Science City, will join as a Board Member. We look forward to their contributions in guiding our future direction and bringing fresh perspectives and expertise to our organisation.

Anita Leirvik North

Anita Leirvik North, Vice Mayor for Culture and Business Development at the City of Oslo, shares her thoughts on the new additions,

“We have assembled a very competent board, with a wide range of experience and knowledge. This will further strengthen the company in its work with startups and growth companies, as well as Oslo’s profile as an attractive city for investments, talent, and visitors. Øystein Eriksen Søreide has knowledge of technology and the challenges and opportunities of knowledge-based companies, which are crucial for business development in Oslo. He also has experience with, and a good understanding of, Oslo municipality.

Christine Wergeland Sørbye has led the work on developing Oslo municipality’s campus strategy, and currently heads the secretariat for Oslo Science City. I believe it is a strength that we are linking the work that Oslo Business Region does with the development of innovation districts.”

Øystein Eriksen Søreide (Chairman of the Board)

Øystein Eriksen Søreide is a Norwegian Business Leader and, since 2019, the Managing Director of Abelia, a trade and employers’ association for tech- and knowledge based companies in Norway, part of NHO (The Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise). Prior to Abelia, Søreide held the position as the District Director in Bydel Grorud in Oslo, and he has also been Vice Mayor and member of the city government in Oslo.

He has extensive work experience from a number of businesses and organisations, such as CARE, SOS Children's Villages, UNICEF, Høyre, and O. Mustad & Søn AS. In addition, he has experience from a number of board positions, including from NOKUT, Norsirk, Eivind Astrup's Almennyttige stiftelse, AS Høyres hus, The European Movement and Skogli Health and Rehabilitation Centre.

“I am really looking forward to the opportunity of chairing the Oslo Business Region board. OBR plays a key role in attracting more visitors, talent and investments to Oslo, and this is the key to securing a robust economy going forward. I am highly motivated to embark on this journey together with OBR`s competent board and dedicated employees.”

Christine Wergeland Sørbye (Board Member)

Christine Wergeland Sørbye has, since 2019, been the CEO of Oslo Science City, the first innovation district in Norway. She is a member of the Steering Committee for The Global Institute of Innovation Districts (GIID), and she holds an advanced master’s degree in Science of Education (Cand.Ed) from the University of Oslo, where she specialised in leadership, organisational theory, and didactics. She has extensive project management experience from the City of Oslo, including writing the city’s official campus strategy for developing Oslo as a knowledge capital. As the project leader for school development, she was also responsible for developing Kuben and Edvard Munch High Schools as innovative centres for learning and collaboration.

"The high concentration of strong knowledge environments in Oslo lays the foundation for innovation, investment and the development of new sustainable workplaces. Through good cooperation with knowledge institutions, startup environments and business, Oslo Municipality and OBR contribute to developing a vibrant and attractive city, and strengthen Norway's international competitiveness. I am looking forward to meaningful and important work on the board."
