Gateway to China: Oslo x Shanghai
A world finance center and a hub for innovation, Shanghai is seen as the gateway to doing business in China. For Oslo it is important to secure access to this massive market by establishing strong partnerships and an arena for development of business opportunities.
Oslo and Shanghai hold a long relationship in business, sports and culture. In 2018, the two cities signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), an agreement where they both are committed to facilitating trade opportunities. Oslo Business Region will host several activities in Oslo and trade missions to Shanghai in the years to come and in collaboration with our partners.
Shanghai has near 25 million inhabitants and is the most international city in mainland China. Traditionally a hub for finance, trade and shipping, the city´s industrial focus is rapidly changing to also include high-tech innovation and entrepreneurship. The startup ecosystem is growing fast and is currently ranked among the world´s best connected, making it a good location for startups from around the globe.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aims to create a valuable platform for Norwegian-Chinese business interests. The cities are committed to establish an even stronger partnership and arena for development of business opportunities and academic collaboration between Norway and Shanghai.
